This summer I'll be working on a webcomic entitled "Taffy Gunn" with a friend of mine. Check out his blog; he's a really fantastic animator, and his CG work has a got a lot of personality to it.
Gideon Dunn: "Orange Squares"

The way we've planned it, there will be a segment of the comic that will resemble shoujo manga. If you're not familiar with the term, "shoujo" means "young girl," so although it's a demographic rather than a genre, the subjects that tend to come to mind are romance, school life, emotional drama, stuff like that. I just got MangaStudio Ex 4, and the program is AMAZING. Like a really noodly Photoshop for manga.

Here's an example of what the manga will look hopefully look like. I decided to pilfer Miwa Ueda's style, as I have a box of Peach Girl sitting outside my cubicle that I've been looking at for reference and inspiration. Fingers crossed!

FILM AT LAST!

I didn't finish my film in time, but I still handed in something! Here's what I was able to muster up for the deadline.

All in all, I was really happy about the way the film was coming through. There are a few shots in the current version of my film that have the look of what I intended for the final polished film, so things have been going just the way I had wanted them to. But for some reason the color is way off from when I was working on it! Welp, there's always next time! (Which starts.... NOW)

Gogatsu Juunigatsu! ~~ 5月12月 !

Idea for a shoujo comic I want to do this summer. Nothing too ambitious, just a handful of pages. Probably no more than 20.

Film backgrounds

Worked my butt off to make backgrounds for my film. Here's about half of them.

a little preview of what's to come

These are some boards from my film, one for each shot. Right now my film is a little over 90 seconds in 20 shots. I'm really digging the pacing of it though, and I just started keying out all my shots two nights ago.

What I have in mind is not too different than these boards; everything will be an overall greyscale, with slight tints, mostly blue. I'm considering saturating the color for the more climatic shots, but we shall see if that's necessary. I'm still trying to uphold the things I picked up from those film thumbnail studies I did.
